At Heartwell Park on Saturday, over 450 LBUSD Middle School-ers ran the 2-mile course in the 4th Annual City Cross Country Championships—and we’ve got results and photos! For more of Long Beach’s great middle school athletes, be sure to check out our coverage of the Century Club’s Middle School Athletics Banquet on Tuesday night.
First, for the team results: Hughes swept the girls’ team titles in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade, and DeMille posted huge wins in the 6th and 7th grade boys’ races. Rogers took the 8th grade race. The Division 1 overall title went to DeMille on the strength of those boys’ races (they also took second in the 6th and 7th grade girls’ races)—Hughes was just two points back. The Division 2 title went to Lindsey, followed by Monroe just one point back.
Two students from Monroe, Kristyn Nold and Miguel Bautista set new course records—Nold beating the all-time course record for girls while winning the 8th grade individual title, and Bautista (a seventh grader) shattering the all-time course record by running two miles in 10:28. The old record was 10:49, held by Rory Baerga of Rogers.
Check out the great photos and results below—thanks to Jim Lineberger for putting this all together for us and making sure these great athletes get the recognition they deserve. For a full list of results click this link.
