The recent past is impressive, but it may be outshone by the future, as the Long Beach State women’s tennis program’s incoming recruiting class has been ranked in the Top 25 as voted by a panel of junior tennis experts at www.tennisrecruiting .net. The 49ers recruiting class includes three international players in Jaklin Alawi, Anna Jeczmionka, and Klaudia Malenovska.
Head Coach Jenny-Hilt Costello’s 2009 recruiting class was placed at No. 23 in the most recent ranking, coming after the spring signing period. The 49ers were one of just two teams to enter the rankings after the most recent recruiting period, and become the first-ever recruiting class in the Big West to receive national recognition.
Long Beach State is also one of just two teams outside the Ivy League and BCS conferences to rank in the top 25, joining Pepperdine as the only mid-major schools on the list as defined by tennisrecruiting.net.
