Jose Lima shut out the Scorpions as the Fleet sailed to an 8-0 win in at Desert Sun Stadium in in Yuma on Thursday. Long Beach is now 6-5 as Yuma drops to 3-8.
Josa Lima (1-1) blanked the Scorpions for his first win of the year. The former National League All-Star limited the Scorpions to six hits with five strike outs and did not surrender a walk. Lima now has not allowed an earned run in 21 innings, since the fourth inning of a game in Calgary on May 21.
Josh Womack led off the game with a double, and after Casey Garrison’s doubled cashed the lead off man, Chad Miller blasted a two-run homerun (3) to give the Armada a 3-0 lead after the first inning.
Womack finished the night 2-for-3 with two walks, two doubles and three runs scored. Miller also had a big night as the Arizona native returned to his home state. The Armada third baseman went 4-for-5 with a homerun, a double and four RBI, posting the first 4-hit game for a member of the Crew this season.
The Armada added a run in the third, two in the fifth and two more in the eighth to pad the lead for Lima.
Another former big-leaguer Hideki Irabu will start Friday’s game for the Armada against the Scorpions. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm PT, and the game can be heard live at www.longbeacharmada.com.
