Mama said there’d be weeks like this—but she didn’t say it would be this year!  The Moore League went 1-6 against the competition this week as some key offensive players (John Timu, Ezell Ruffin, James McConico) were sorely missing.  The combined score of the six Moore League teams we heard about?  142-112, which doesn’t seem so bad until you consider that Lakewood won 51-0 (without them it’s 142-61).

Well, fortunately league play starts next week, so everybody’s record is actually that column of doughnuts on the right—here’s hoping the rest of the league season goes a little better than Friday did.

Cabrillo was hoping to get a win but lost 18-12 to Bell Gardens to fall to 0-4.

Compton lost their best player, James McConico, to a serious laceration in the first plays of the game, and went on to lose to Dorsey, 39-28. Click here for the full story.

Jordan was without their best player, John Timu, as they will be for the rest of the year—the defense stepped up but the offense struggled in a 13-7 overtime loss to Dominguez. Click here for the full story.

Lakewood…well, Lakewood is the lone bright spot, as they demolished Verbum Dei 51-0—and it wasn’t even that close. Click here for the full story.

Millikan finally fell to earth with a loss to Fountain Valley, their lone defeat of the nonleague schedule. Click here for the full story.

Poly continued to suffer growing pains, as the defense took two steps forward and the offense took two steps back in a 14-7 loss on the road to Oceanside. Click here for the full story.

Wilson was hoping for a good showing against Los Al on Thursday, but came away with very little to be positive about in a 38-0 defeat. Click here for the full story.

St. Anthony protected the ball this week, and it worked!  The Saints are the only other LB team to nab a win, as they got over Montclair Prep, 30-22. Click here for the full story.

Long Beach State utilized a solid week of rest in their bye last week to really put some giddyup in their step, as they exploded out of the gate to defeat the Los Angeles Avengers in an exhibition game, keeping the win streak alive, and ticking ever closer to twenty years.
