The Wilson water polo program is absolutely humming this year.  With good performances in tournaments and in the Moore League, and a number 3-ranking in Division 2 CIF, it’s no wonder why.

This week continues their breakneck pace with two matches, before they head north for another big tournament.

First, they’re traveling to Capistrano Valley Tuesday afternoon for a nonleague match—Capo Valley isn’t ranked in Div. 2 CIF, but they are listed under “also receiving votes,” so it won’t be an easy battle for the Bruins.

After that, they host the Millikan Rams at Belmont Plaza on Thursday, in a game that will determine the Moore League champion.  Wilson’s beaten Poly, and Poly beat Millikan last week, so if Wilson wins on Thursday they’ll claim the league title.  If Millikan upsets the Bruins, we’ll have a three-way, one-loss tie for the title.  That game will be played at 3pm.

Typically, Varsity games start later than that (they’re played after JV matches), but the game has been moved up because the Bruins have a 5pm flight at Long Beach Airport to catch.  They’re flying north to San Jose, where they’ll compete in the NorCal Memorial Tournament, along with some of the state’s best teams (Wilson will face Bellarmine in round one).  Newport Harbor, Mater Dei, Serra, and Mission Viejo are all in the tournament, so the Bruins could end up playing a team they’ll meet next month in the CIF playoffs.
