For Vikings fans, it was a great Halloween treat: the LBCC football team earned its first Southern Conference win of the year thanks to a 29-13 win at Santa Ana College on Saturday night.

The win halted a three-game losing streak for the Vikings and improved their record to 2-6 overall and 1-3 in conference play.

Freshman quarterback Kevin Lubner threw for 268 yards on 23 of 36 passing with one touchdown and an interception. His one-yard touchdown run at the 9:31 mark in the second quarter capped a 72-yard LBCC drive and gave the Vikings a 9-7 lead.

Late in the third quarter, Lubner drove the Vikings 91 yards over 14 plays and closed it with a five-yard TD pass to freshman Deondre Powell that gave the Vikings the lead for good at 15-10.

Freshman running back Daveon Barner sealed the win with a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns (2, 3 yards). He ended the game rushing for 106 yards on 26 carries, his sixth 100+ yard game of the season.

Freshman David Covey connected for a 43-yard field goal in the first quarter that gave LBCC an early 3-0 advantage.

The LBCC defense put together its best game of the season and allowed a season-best 205 yards of offense to Santa Ana (3-5, 0-4 SC). Freshmen defensive back DeAndre Lewis led the Vikings with 10 tackles (6 solo) and sophomore safety Genesis Fonoimoana totaled seven tackles (3 solo) with an interception.
