Long Beach City College freshman pitcher Jessica Davis tossed a six-hit shutout and the Viking offense came alive to pound out nine hits in an 8-0 seven-inning South Coast Conference win over visiting Pasadena City College in LBCC’s home and conference opener on Thursday.

The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Vikings and improved their record to 6-3 overall and 1-0 in the SCC.

LBCC led 3-0 before erupting for five runs in the bottom of the sixth to end the game early.

The big blow of the inning came from a bases-clearing double off the left-field fence by freshman designated player Brittney Holden that put Long Beach up 7-0 with two outs. Sophomore right fielder Dora Hogue followed that with a RBI single to drive in Holden for the game-ending run.

Freshman centerfielder Anissa Noland went 2 for 4 with two runs and two RBI. Her single in the sixth plated the Vikings’ first run of the inning. She also followed freshman second baseman Desiree Villegas’ leadoff triple with a RBI single in the bottom of the fourth.

Davis struck out three and walked none in the complete-game win to improve to 3-1 overall for Long Beach.

For Pasadena (2-3, 0-1 SCC), third baseman Amber Frame went 2 for 3 to lead the Lancers at the plate. Jenna Martin took the loss, allowing eight runs and nine hits in 5 2/3 innings. She struck out four and walked four.

The Vikings return to action on Saturday (Feb. 13) when they travel to San Diego Mesa College for a 12 p.m. non-conference game.
