A pair of comeback victories helped The Beach defeat their first ranked opponent of the year as the No. 50 49ers defeat No. 47 San Diego State 4-3 on Saturday. Rachel Manasse and Jaklin Alawi each picked up key wins in doubles and singles for The Beach.

Down 4-1 at No. 1 doubles, #58 Alawi and Manasse recovered to win eight of the next nine games over Roxanne and Sierra Ellison to grab an 8-5 victory, and Cantlay/Luzar sealed the win by edging Alicia Aguilar and Emma Cioffi 9-7 after a loss at No. 2 by Deborah Armstrong and Anais Dallara.

In singles, Julia Trunk defeated Armstrong at No. 1 singles, but the 49ers picked up wins at No.2 from Dallara over Julia Wais 6-4, 6-3 and by Manasse over Roxanne Ellison 6-2, 6-2. Long Beach State then sealed the win as Alawi rallied from a first set loss to Alicia Aguilar to win 4-6, 6-0, 6-3 to complete the win.

Anna Jeczmionka lost a hard-fought match at No. 5 singles falling 7-6, 3-6, 8-10 following the 49ers fourth win, and Cioffi bested Cantlay at No.6 singles.

 Long Beach State starts Big West play next weekend, hitting the road to face UC Riverside at 1 p.m. next Friday.
