The best game in town was, in fact, not in town on Saturday night, as Jordan traveled to Warren for a second-round CIF girls’ basketball game.  The Panthers were down seven before the start of the fourth quarter, but rallied to win narrowly, 55-53.  The win advances the Panthers to the quarterfinals, where they’ll face a very tough Corona/Santiago team on the road.

“What can I say?” asked Jordan coach Adara Newidouski after the game.  “I’m at a loss for words.  It’s one of the best games we’ve ever completed.”

Jordan held a two-point advantage at half, but Warren surged in the third to take the lead.  The game wasn’t in the bag until Danesha Long, fouled with just a second on the clock, hit a free throw to put Jordan up by one, then intentionally missed the second, forcing Warren to try and rebound and shoot with just one tick on the clock.

Long had 16 points, seven in the fourth quarter, and point guard India Burke had 20 points, including going 6-7 from the free throw line in the final frame.
