The Arcadia Invitational is one of the biggest high school track meets in the nation, and Poly and Millikan both had strong performances last week.

Millikan

Millikan’s Ashley Smith won the heptathlon, in her first time competing in the event.  She ran a 14.3 in the hurdle on Thursday, and her 5’11.5″ in the high jump was the best in the state this year, and broke her own school record.  On Friday she notched an 18’10” in the long jump also breaking her own school record, and posting a top ten state mark for this season.

Paisley Pettway was the best runner from Long Beach in the 800-meter, finishing second in the race with a time of 2:12.

Poly

As expected the Trackrabbits (and the Fieldrabbits!) had a great Invitational.  Tara Richmond won the high jump with a 5’8″, and took third in the triple jump.  Melia Cox won the triple jump by over a foot, with a distance of 41’2″.

The Poly girls lost the 4X400 (not something you’ll see every day), but finished in second with an excellent time of 45.92, the second best time in the nation this year; second only to Rancho Verde at 45.68, the top finisher at Arcadia.  Dynasty Gammage finished sixth in the 800-meter, at 2:13.87.  Arielle Stevenson of Poly finished in eighth with 2:14.22.

Akawkaw Ndipagbor finished fourth in the 400-meter with a 54.39, and the Poly boys 4X400 finished in sixth.
