Putting together one of their most complete efforts of the season, the 49ers stormed out to a 3-0 lead and never looked back in a 7-4 victory over Cal State Bakersfield. Kristen Stragier had 13 saves as the Long Beach State defense posted their second-lowest goals allowed total of the season.

Katie Rogers scored off of Long Beach State’s second possession with less than a minute gone in the game to give the 49ers the lead that they would never relinquish. Rogers scored again with 5:00 in the period and then Krizia Cerda scored the first of her three goals with 1:52 in the first period to give the 49ers a 3-0 lead after the first quarter.

Cal State Bakersfield pulled closer with a pair of goals in the second quarter, but Cerda also added another tally to keep the 49ers in the lead after the first half at 4-2. Cerda would strike again in the third period, and the 49er defense had another strong quarter, shutting out the Roadrunners for an entire eight for the second time in the game.

With a 5-2 lead after the third period, Long Beach State got a pair of goals from freshmen Miranda Furuto and Kirsten Thorn to hold even with the Roadrunners and maintain their three-goal cushion on the way to a 7-4 victory.

Long Beach State will finish the 2010 season by hosting the Big West Championships next weekend, running from April 23-25.
