Girls’ Division 2 Championship: Cubberley 1, Newcomb 0
The Girls’ Division 2 Championship boiled down to a pair of rivals from the Eastern League as Cubberley & Newcomb had met in a frantic 1-point deficit game earlier in the season—and wound up playing for the Division 2 Championship for the third straight year!
Newcomb had been victorious in both those championship seasons, but it was time for Cubberley to turn the tables as Grace Schmidt-Beck knocked in a first half goal in the 26th minute. In the second half, Newcomb’s Amaris Sherlock and Victoria Levin had several shots on goal. However, the Cubberley defense refused to cave in as Sarah Kemeny, Katie Kemeny, Madison Godsil & goalkeeper Julia DeJong held sway. This caps a record year for Cubberley, as the Lady Cubs swept all four Division 2 Championships this year, taking volleyball, basketball, track and soccer!
