Today, after extensive and sometimes bitter campaigns, Long Beach voters will have a chance to choose the city’s future leaders.
In the only City Council race, incumbent Dee Andrews – who has served a shortened term after replacing current Congresswoman Laura Richardson – faces off against challenger and local businessman Ahmed Saafir for the 6th District seat.
Two Long Beach Unified School District board seats will also be decided today. In the 4th District, incumbent Jon Meyer is challenged by Karen Hillburn and Paul Crost. If no candidate receives at least 50% of the vote, then the top two vote-getters will participate in a run-off election to take place in June.
In the 2nd District, incumbent Felton Williams is challenged by Rosa Diaz.
The Press-Telegram has put together a voter’s guide, which can be found here. Visit longbeach.gov or call 562-570-6101 to find information about polling places. The polls will be open today from 7am to 8pm.
