2:45pm | Tuesday, September 27, Vice Mayor and Second District Councilmember Suja Lowenthal will deliver the State of the Second District 2011 and share achievements, challenges and goals for the future with residents and business owners. The event will take place from 6:30pm – 8:30pm at the Bixby Park Band Shell, 2001 E. 1st Street, between Cherry & Junipero. Attendees are encouraged to walk, bicycle or take the bus, however, limited parking is available in reserved spaces on Second Street (adjacent to the park) and in the Junipero Beach Lot.

By holding the event at the Bixby Park Band Shell, Lowenthal says she hopes to bring attention to improvements made to the park with the help of Friends of Bixby Park, and to the need for ongoing community use of the historic band shell.

Lowenthal’s remarks will be followed by presentations from community groups, including Alamitos Beach Neighborhood Association (ABNA), Bluff Heights Neighborhood Association (BHNA), On Broadway, Craftsman Village Historic District, Downtown Long Beach Association (DBLA), East Village Association (EVA), Fourth Street Business Association, North Alamitos Beach Association (NABA), Ocean Residents Community Association (ORCA), Promenade Area Residents Association (PARA) and Rose Park Neighborhood Association (RPNA).

This event is free and open to the public.  Second District residents, businesses and community groups are invited to attend.  Neighborhood and business associations will host tables with information and sell their wares. Light refreshments will also be served. To RSVP or for information, please contact Vice Mayor Lowenthal’s office at (562) 570-6684.
