UPDATE Tuesday, July 19, 6:15pm | The 67-year-old bicyclist who was struck by a pickup truck in Bixby Knolls on July 6 has died as a result of his injuries, police said.

Long Beach resident Louis Gabor died Tuesday in the hospital, where he had remained since being critically injured almost two weeks ago, according to information provided by Long Beach Police Department spokeswoman Lisa Massacani.

Massacani said earlier this month that the preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of the truck that hit Gabor as he was riding his bike through the intersection of Bixby Road and Cherry Avenue “most likely ran a red light.”

Massacani said Tuesday that the case will be presented the the L.A. County District Attorney’s Office, and the driver could face a felony vehicular manslaughter charge.

July 8, 4:01pm |A Long Beach bicyclist was still in critical condition at a local hospital Friday after he was hit by a pickup truck Wednesday, police said.

The 67-year-old man was riding a bicycle on Bixby Road headed east on July 6 at roughly 11 a.m. when, as he crossed the intersection of Bixby and Cherry Avenue, he was hit by a pickup truck, the Press-Telegram is reporting.

The driver of the truck, a 67-year-old Long Beach man, was reportedly traveling south on Cherry at the time of the accident.

Long Beach Police Department spokeswoman Lisa Massacani told the PT that it appears the driver may have run a red light.

“The preliminary investigation found … the driver most likely ran a red light,” Massacani reportedly said.

The driver of the truck was questioned by police at the scene and released, though the investigation is ongoing and he could face criminal charges, according to the PT.
