Crews put out a fire that spread to two North Long Beach homes in the early morning hours of Saturday, according to a fire official.

Though no injuries were reported, two families were displaced from their homes because the fire damage was so bad, LBFD spokesman Jake Heflin said. Red Cross aid was called in to help the families, Heflin said.

The LBFD first received a call about a house fire at about 12:29 a.m. in the 6100 block of Lewis Avenue. When crews arrived, they saw fire and smoke coming from a home.

Though details on the cause of the fire are not clear, the flames spread to a second home, according to the incident report. Heflin said the crews were able to knock down the blaze at about 1:06 a.m. and then dealt with small pockets of flames that were still burning.

A fire investigator is looking into the cause of the blaze, Heflin said.
