10:30am | Two separate, unrelated shooting incidents occurred in normally quiet east Long Beach neighborhoods over the weekend. One man died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound on Saturday and another man was found dead in the street with a gunshot wound to the upper-body on Sunday.

As the Press-Telegram reports in this article, 44-year old James Scarcella allegedly shot a 19-year old female relative around 3:45am on Saturday. When SWAT officers stormed the home they found Scarcella dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. That occurred in the 6800 block of 10th Street near Cal State Long Beach (A on the map at right). The female sustained non-life threatening injuries.

Around 1:00am on Sunday morning, officers and paramedics were called to 2300 Vuelta Grande where a black male in his 20s was found lying in the street with a gunshot wound to the upper body. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. Police currently have no suspects and anyone with information is urged to call detectives at 562.570.7244.

Both incidents are the eastern-most fatal shootings to occur in Long Beach in more than one year.
