10:30am | After a shooting during a Memorial Day party at Pan Am Park, Councilmember Gerrie Schipske has called a special meeting along with authorities from the Long Beach Police Department to address the incident.

The meeting will be held this Saturday, June 5, at the Pan Am Park gymnasium at 5157 Centralia Avenue beginning at 10:00am. Lieutenant Liberman (East Division) and a representative from the Parks, Recreation & MArine Department will be on hand to discuss park safety and answer questions.

In a press release, Councilmember Schipske said that the shooting appears to have been an isolated incident and that the same family had been holding Memorial Day celebrations at the park for twenty years without incident.

Police are still investigating the shooting, which did not injure anyone at the park near Twain Elementary School and down the street from Long Beach City College.
