1:40pm | Occupy Long Beach left Lincoln Park last week — and the police have followed, even though the group is not currently an occupying presence at Bixby Park — where OLB currently holds its daily general assemblies (GA) — or anywhere else.
The Long Beach Post has reviewed video (frame captures from which appear with this article) of at least five police vehicles and half a dozen officers who arrived at Bixby Park Sunday evening as OLB was holding its GA, apparently to monitor the group’s activities.
On two occasions police approached group members, and police openly video-recorded portions of the GA, which took place during regular park hours and consisted of approximately 30 OLBers standing in a circle and talking.
OLB members say this was not the first time police were present. The group feels the police are showing up at Bixby Park in an effort to intimidate group members. Two OLBers who interacted with police say the officers confirmed they were present to monitor the group, while another says police told him they were there as part of officer training.
The LBPD refused to comment on its deployment Sunday to Bixby Park, as well as on the reasons for and logistics of its ongoing monitoring of Occupy Long Beach.
