The Los Angeles Metro’s official blog, The Sourcereported today–rather ecstatically (with three exclamation points)–that all Metro lines will run on Fridays and Saturdays until 2:00AM.

This means that our beloved Blue Line, which connects Downtown Los Angeles to Downtown Long Beach, will operate for an extra hour on those nights, with trains expected to run every 20 minutes after midnight. Currently, the last train to Long Beach leaves 7th St./Metro Center at 12:45AM, however those reveling in downtown Los Angeles while depending on the Blue Line will no longer be entirely limited to the pre-last call hours, a complaint resonated amongst county citizens for years whether they were visiting a restaurant or attending an event or simply partaking in bar hopping.

The extended weekend hours will also be a good opportunity for Downtown Long Beach to promote its restaurant and nightlife options to an untapped L.A. customer base. Metro’s new service is expected to launch July 27, with hopes that the County will soon approach a 24-hour public transit.
