UPDATE | Authorities on Thursday identified a man killed when a vehicle veered off the San Diego (405) Freeway in Long Beach Monday morning. 

Nery Madrid, 33, died at the scene, said coroner’s Assistant Ed Winter. His home town was not known.

The crash happened on the northbound San Diego Freeway at Santa Fe Avenue and was reported at 2:54AM, California Highway Patrol (CHP) Officer Patrick Kimball said.

The cause of the crash was under investigation.

6/27/16 at 11:50AM | A vehicle that veered off the San Diego (405) Freeway in Long Beach Monday morning resulted in the death of one person, authorities said.

The crash happened on the northbound San Diego Freeway at Santa Fe Avenue and was reported at 2:54AM, California Highway Patrol (CHP) Officer Patrick Kimball said.

The vehicle went over the side of the freeway. One person was pronounced dead at the scene, said Kimball.

The transition road from the southbound Long Beach (710) Freeway to the northbound San Diego Freeway was shut down at 3:34AM for the investigation and clean-up and reopened just after 5:00AM, he said.
