1:00pm | The Pediatric Residents from the University of California, Irvine are teaming up with Miller Children’s Hospital Long Beach to host the Second Annual Super Kids Sunday 5K and free 1K Fun Run to help fight and bring awareness to childhood obesity.

Obesity is becoming more of a problem for children everyday, leading to an alarming increase in the number of children and adolescents developing Type 2 Diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and sleep apnea. The Super Kids Sunday event will feature a free Health, Nutrition and Fitness Expo at the finish line. The expo is created just for kids and their families, with interactive displays showing ways to eat smart and to make staying fit fun. There will be plenty of games for kids of all ages and giveaways promoting the fight against childhood obesity.

Funds raised through the registration fees will help support childhood obesity prevention, education, research and treatment programs at Miller Children’s. Come with your family and friends to help assist this worthy cause, take action against a growing epidemic and enjoy a beautiful morning by the beach.

The run takes place on Sunday, March 4 at Granada Beach in Belmont Shore. Registration for the event starts at 7 a.m. and the 5K Run starts at 8:30 a.m. Registration fee for 1K Fun Run is free; the 5K Run is $25 until March 2.
