A man walking in the Rose Park was stabbed multiples times by an unknown assailant during the day, authorities said.

Long Beach police said the stabbing happened at about 3 p.m. Monday in the 700 block of Raymond Ave. in the Rose Park area. The victim was approached by an unknown man who spoke to the victim before being assaulted, police said.

“The suspect said something to the victim and brandished a knife, which resulted in the stabbing,” LBPD spokesperson Richard Mejia said.

A witness who declined to be identified out of safety concerns said the victim was stabbed several times in his back.

The assailant fled before police arrived, authorities said. Police did not have a description of the suspected assailant, and have not identified a motive.

The Long Beach Fire Department arrived on the scene and transported the victim to a nearby hospital to treat him for his “non-life-threatening” injures, police said.

Police have not made any arrests.
