A man is in stable condition after being shot Thursday afternoon on the 900 block of Gardenia Avenue in Long Beach’s historic Hellman neighborhood, police said.

Officers responded around 2:01 p.m. to the 2000 block of East 10th Street after reports of a shooting in the area. Upon arrival, officers discovered that the shooting had actually taken place off East 10th Street in the 900 block of Gardenia Avenue, Long Beach police spokesperson Allison Gallagher said.

Authorities made contact with the gunshot victim, who had sustained wounds to the lower body. The Long Beach Fire Department transported him to a nearby hospital where he remains in stable condition. No other injuries were reported.

At the scene, police found evidence that a shooting had occurred, including bullet casings, she added.

At this time, police do not have a motive for the shooting, Gallagher said. The shooting suspect was last seen driving westbound on 10th Street in an unknown vehicle, according to the LBPD.
