Police say they arrested a 32-year-old Los Angeles resident Wednesday, Dec. 29 on attempted murder charges stemming from a shooting incident last year in North Long Beach near Davenport Park.

Officers from the Long Beach Police Department’s Northern Division were on patrol Wednesday night on the 6300 block of White Avenue near Coolidge Park when they spotted a car that matched the description of a vehicle that was stolen at gunpoint in Compton earlier in the day.

After conducting a felony stop on the car, police arrested Daylon Reginald Reese and Mariah Thomas, a 19-year-old Long Beach resident.

During their search police officers seized two firearms, including a ghost gun. A ghost gun is an untraceable gun without a serial number. They are usually made of separate parts bought online and make it difficult for police to trace them if recovered at a crime scene.

Reese was arrested on four warrants—one on a charge of attempted murder, one for driving without a license, one for display of license plates and another for carrying a loaded firearm on him or in a vehicle, LBPD spokesperson Allison Gallagher said in an email.

Thomas was arrested and booked on suspicion of carrying a loaded handgun that was not registered to her, carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle and resisting arrest, according to LBPD.

Reese’s attempted murder warrant comes from an incident on March 14 when a man was robbed at gunpoint and then shot.

Officers said they found a man with gunshot wounds to his upper body area around 6:30 p.m. near the 3700 block of Long Beach Boulevard near Los Cerritos. Three-and-a-half miles away on the 2600 block of East 56th Street near Davenport Park, bullet casings were still on the ground where the shooting had occurred.

The Long Beach Fire Department transported the man to a local hospital in critical but stable condition.

Through an investigation, gang detectives found evidence linking Reese to the shooting and secured a warrant for his arrest.

Reese is being held without bail at the Inmate Reception Center in Los Angeles.

Thomas was released today at 8:37 a.m. on her own recognizance, according to the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department.

The investigation remains ongoing.
