Early Thursday morning on Palo Verde Ave., a man died after his vintage Karmann Ghia rear-ended a parked Bronco and burst into flames.
Long Beach Police investigators believe the driver of the 1959 Volkswagon Karmann Ghia was traveling southbound on Palo Verde near Marita Street at around 1:50AM when he suddenly slammed into the parked 1988 Bronco. The force of his collision caused the Bronco to propel eastbound before resting on a residential lawn.
The VW ignited preventing a neighbor who had called police officers from rescuing the driver. The driver was deceased before LBPD arrived and has not been identified.
