UPDATED OCT 16 1:06 PM | The names of both people involved in a fatal vehicle-versus-pedestrian accident early Sunday morning were released today. Sandra Silva, 40, of Hacienda Heights struck 49 year-old Alfonso Meraz with her car after the two had an argument in a Belmont Heights street. Meraz died at the scene and Silva was released on $100,000 bail Sunday afternoon.

Police say that the pair knew each other but have not disclosed details about their relationship or the argument.

ORIGINAL OCT 15 11:50AM | An after-midnight argument in Belmont Heights Sunday ended with one man dead in the street and a woman in jail for driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter.

At approximately 1:37AM, the Long Beach Fire Department paramedics were called to assist an injured male lying in the middle of the roadway on the 200 block of Termino Ave. He was pronounced dead at the scene. According to the Long Beach Police Department, which arrived shortly afterwards, the man was the victim of “a vehicle-versus-pedestrian traffic fatality.”

The investigation revealed that prior to the call, a man and a woman were involved in a verbal altercation at the site. When the female attempted to leave the area in her 2005 Mercedes E500, she struck the victim, who was in the street. The woman, who is only being identified as a 40 year-old resident of Hacienda Heights, was arrested shortly afterwards for DUI and vehicular manslaugher.

The victim is only being identified as a 49 year-old Long Beach man, pending notification of his family.
