Unemployment in the city of Long Beach improved from 13.9% to 13.4% according to statistics released today. The Employment Development Department released information showing that unemployment is still high compared to November of 2008, but there was a slight improvement from October to November of this year.

Unemployment improved in Los Angeles County as a whole, as well, from 12.7% this October to 12.2% in November. In November of 2008, the unemployment rate in Long Beach was just 9.6%. That figure shot up in the following months, and reached 12.5% in June. Since then, the rate has slowed to where it stands now.

After a full year of rapidly increasing unemployment rates, does the recent slowing and current decline in unemployment mean good things are ahead for Long Beach?
