Long Beach firefighters used the Jaws of Life to free at least one person trapped in a car following a multi-vehicle crash near Heartwell Park Monday morning, authorities said. At least two people were sent to a local hospital in critical condition.
Police responded to the incident at 7:47AM near Palo Verde Avenue and Carson Street, said Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) spokeswoman Marlene Arrona in an email.
Officials said the crash involved multiple vehicles.
Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) and Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD) personnel were also at the scene, Arrona said.
LBFD officials reported using the Jaws of Life to remove at least one victim, according to a tweet. Two victims were left in critical condition, the tweet added.

It was not clear how the crash happened or how many people were involved.
The investigation remains ongoing.
