Long Beach police arrested two people Friday night on suspicion of driving under the influence during a DUI and driver’s license checkpoint.

More than 1,750 vehicles drove through the checkpoint, and 352 drivers were screened, police said. Police ticketed four people for driving without a license and seven for unsafe driving, police said.

One driver fled the checkpoint, and officers searched the area of the suspect’s last known direction of travel where they found the unoccupied vehicle. The suspect fled the scene before police arrived, so they made no arrest. However, police recovered a handgun and narcotics inside the vehicle.

“Drivers caught driving impaired can expect the impact of a DUI arrest to include jail time, fines, fees, DUI classes, license suspension, and other expenses that can exceed $10,000 not to mention the embarrassment when friends and family find out,” police said in a statement.
