Long Beach’s own Comprehensive Child Development (CCD) celebrated 25 years of service to the city over the weekend, with a cocktail reception at the center that was hosted by 7th District Councilmember Tonia Reyes Uranga on Saturday. The reception was held in lieu of the usual black tie event due to budget constraints that have forced CCD to cut back in every way, but the daycare center’s achievement was no less diminished by recent misfortune.
In a press release, Reyes Uranga praised CCD’s efforts and offered her own daughter – who once attended the center – as a prime example of the positive effects it can have on young students.
We first told you about CCD last June in this feature article. CCD provides free or low-cost day care service to children aged 4 to kindergarten, many of whom would not receive pre-kindergarten attention if not for the center. A slash to their state funding has caused CCD to cut back in many ways, but the center has managed to stay afloat and continue to serve the greater Long Beach area from its Pacific Avenue location. If you include CCD’s three additional locations in San Pedro and Wilmington, more than 500 kids learn through the program every day.
You can always find more ways to help CCD on their website by clicking here. You can make a donation or just learn about the many services that the center provides. Or maybe, in honor of their milestone, send an e-mail thanking them for supporting 25 years of youth in Long Beach.
