Debra Cola, a local, long-time trial deputy from the Los Angeles County Alternative Public Defender’s Office — the office designated for cases which cannot be represented by the Public Defender’s Office itself — was appointed last Friday by Governor Jerry Brown to the Los Angeles Superior Court bench along with seven others throughout the Los Angeles region. Following the recent retirement of Judge Andrew Kauffman, Cole will fill his place at the Torrance Courthouse.
Cole did her undergraduate work at UCLA before getting her J.D. from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles.
All of the appointees are Democrats and will be earning, according the Governor’s website, an annual salary of $179,789.
