As the finale to a stellar weekend of racing through the streets of Long Beach, today we will be bringing you a live blog straight from the track as the 36th annual Grand Prix of Long Beach kicks off with an extremely talented field of superstar drivers.
Of course, we’ve also been covering the full slate of racing this weekend; from the Celebrity Race to the American Le Mans Series and much more.
Click here to join our live blog and follow along with your thoughts and predictions, as Penske Racing driver Will Power (pictured above) will lead the field for the second consecutive year. But the likes of Helio Castroneves, Tony Kanaan and many more will be right there as well. Click here to read about Power’s extremely fast performance on Saturday, and why some big names like Dario Franchitti and Danica Patrick will start farther back than expected.
Some spectacular driving has already been on display, as yesterday’s Ameican Le Mans Series race saw a daring final-lap maneuver by Simon Pagenaud in his Acura ARX-01c to overtake the leading Lola-Aston Martin and earn the overall victory. Patrick Long in a Porsche 911 GT3 RSR made a similar move to jump in front of a challenging BMW M3 GTR and win the GT class victory. Click here to read about the thrilling ALMS race.
The driving was not as pretty but just as exhilarating during the Celebrity/Pro Race earlier on Saturday. Motorsports legend Jimmy Vasser leapfrogged the entire celebrity field to earn the overall win in a supercharged Scion tC, while actor Brian Austin Green bumped and grinded past Adrien Brody and Zachary Levi to win among the celebrity racers. Click here for a video with celebrity interviews and a report from the crash-happy race.
On top of all that, click here to see a highlight video featuring all of yesterday’s festivities from the track and beyond.
The fun starts today at 12:30pm and the green flag drops on the Grand Prix of Long Beach at 1:15pm, so enjoy the race today and thanks for visiting our coverage!
