10:57am | Long Beach City College (LBCC) President Eloy Ortiz Oakley is in Washington, D.C. to attend a Hispanic Heritage Month reception at the White House today at 3:30pm.  He was invited by President Barack Obama, along with other Hispanic leaders in business, politics and education to celebrate the contributions of the Hispanic community in America.

“I am honored to represent Long Beach City College at the White House for Hispanic Heritage month,” said President Oakley in a press release. “I look forward to continuing working with the President and his administration on education reform and community college policy.”

The White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanic Americans hosted a community town hall at LBCC last year.  In addition, President Oakley has advised White House staff on community college policy for Hispanic Americans.

While in Washington, D.C., President Oakley will attend a policy briefing with White House officials.
