11:55am | Before the first wave of kids took off at the Aquarium of the Pacific’s annual Kid’s Fun Run, representatives from Kohl’s Department Stores presented Miller Children’s Hospital Long Beach with more than $230,000 to continue the Kohl’s Keeping Kids Safe Program at Miller Children’s. The Kohl’s Keeping Kids Safe program is part of Kohl’s Cares child safety initiative, which uses education to help prevent unnecessary injury.
The Fun Run was part of the 27th Annual International City Bank Long Beach Marathon. Millie the Dolphin from Miller Children’s and Louie the Shrimp from Bubba Gump Shrimp Factory Co. Restaurants, Inc. were all present to entertain the more than 2,000 kids and their families in attendance. Kohl’s Safety Coalition was on hand to inspect and give properly fit helmets to kids in the community and educate them on important safety tips.
Kohl’s Department Stores has donated more than $400,000 to Miller Children’s since 2009. This year’s grant will help sustain the Kohl’s Keeping Kids Safe Program, a safety initiative emphasizing injury prevention and expanding childhood safety programs through outreach and education in the local communities of Long Beach, South Bay and North Orange County.
“It was great being able to pass out helmets this year at the Kid’s Fun Run,” says Danny Luna, injury prevention coordinator, Miller Children’s Hospital Long Beach. “We are thankful for support from Kohl’s Department Stores for our injury prevention program through Miller Children’s and we look forward to helping prevent injury throughout the year.”
