1:40pm | Kohl’s Department Stores is offering Nancy Tillman books and plush toys now through the holidays at more than 1,000 Kohl’s stores nationwide and online at Kohls.com. Kohl’s will donate 100 percent of the net profit to children’s health and educational opportunities nationwide including Keeping Kids Safe Program at Miller Children’s Hospital Long Beach. The program was established with the Kohl’s Department Stores to bring childhood safety programs into the community and to educate families about the importance of safety and injury prevention.
The Nancy Tillman and plush toys are the newest offering from the Kohl’s Cares® cause merchandise program. Since the program’s inception in 2000, Kohl’s has turned $5 merchandise into more than $180 million to help make a positive difference in the lives of children.
Over the past three years, Kohl’s Cares has given more than $400,000 to support the Kohl’s Keeping Kids Safe Program at Miller Children’s, which provides education to children and parents on passenger, bicycle and pedestrian safety. Miller Children’s safety experts attend different community events throughout the year where they properly fit helmets on kids, in the community and educate them on what they can do to prevent injuries from happening. Education about injury prevention and proper safety precautions, such as wearing helmets and having car seats are important messages to get out into the community, especially in Long Beach, where pedestrian traffic and the risk of accidents are high.
Car accidents are the leading cause of death and disability for children between the ages of 1 and 15. Children need to be in the correct car seat for their age and weight. It is the law that children must be restrained correctly in a child seat or booster seat until they are at least 6 years old or weigh 60 pounds. All children ages 12 and younger should sit in the back seat and be properly restrained at all times. The Kohl’s Keeping Kids Safe Program ensures that these messages get out in the community through events and education in partnership with other community agencies, such as AAA.
Stores include Buena Park, Huntington Beach, Mira Loma, Westchester, Menifee, Huntington Park, Cypress, Cerritos, Torrance, Lakewood, Seal Beach, Downey, Redondo Beach and Whittier.
