Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe spoke yesterday in Long Beach to a sold out crowd sponsored by the Long Beach Chamber delivering one of his many State of the County addresses.
Knabe highlighted his many accomplishments within his 38 cities and unincorporated areas out of over 100 cities and unincorporated areas throughout the County of Los Angeles. He spoke of his commitment to serving in local government by providing answers to problems such as homelessness, healthcare reform, environmental protection, public safety and his landmark safe surrender program.
Excerpts from Knabe’s speech:
When I think about what I enjoy most about serving in local government I think about what Winston Churchill had to say on the subject many years ago when he said “the more government we can keep at local levels in local hands, the better off we are and the more freedom we will have.”
I am a lifelong Republican and proud of my political heritage, but at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter if I’m a Republican, Democrat, or Libertarian… what matters is fixing problems. People don’t think about the services of the County in the context of… “so am I a blue person, or I am a red person, or I am a Democrat, or am I a Republican?” What they think about is… “How is Supervisor Knabe dealing with our public health care system, how is he improving access to good jobs and a quality transportation system and the things that impact me?” Those are the issues that matter most. Not partisan politics. Not towing a political line. Instead, it is about ensuring that the people get quality services from their local government. It’s a responsibility I take pride in doing each and every day.
The event was sponsored by Molina Health Care.
