After a premature announcement back in April before any formal paperwork had been done to ensure that the fireworks would indeed be returning to Veterans Stadium, it is official that the explosive tradition will go on after a two-year hiatus.
Two years ago, the Long Beach Firefighters Memorial Association halted the East Long Beach pyrotechnic display after 54 years of tradition, citing budget concerns.
According to outgoing 5th District Councilmember Gerrie Schipske, private funds have been raised to bring the $25K show back.
“It will be a great evening with our treasured Long Beach Municipal Band,” said Schipske in a press release. “I’m thrilled that we are able to restore a long-cherished tradition of having fireworks at Vets Stadium.”
The program is set to include a tribute to 16 Long Beach veterans who were killed in Iraq and Afghanistan, a concert by local cover band fave Rock for Vets, as well as the pyrotechnic display being coordinated with live music from the Long Beach Municipal Band.
