More than 250 children battling cancer and serious blood disorders, as well as survivors will team up with celebrities starring in children’s television shows and movies this Saturday. The occasion? The 30th Annual Champions Run for Life, also fondly known as the “Torch Run.”

torchrun2To raise funds for the Jonathan Jaques Children’s Cancer Center (JJCCC) the survivors and patients will run, walk, wheel or be carried in a relay race while passing an Olympic-style torch in celebration of another year won in the fight for their lives.

“This year we celebrate the 30th Annual Champions Run for Life Torch Run—an event our families, patients and care teams look forward to each and every year,” said Amanda Termuhlen, M.D., medical director, Jonathan Jaques Children’s Cancer Center, Miller Children’s. “The Champions Run for Life Torch Run gives our extended families an opportunity to come together on one day, in one location and celebrate our journeys together!”

torchrun3The annual Champions Run for Life is the largest fundraising event for the JJCCC, of which the proceeds support comprehensive care, research and support programs to more than 800 children every year. The event has been a way for patients battling cancer and serious blood disorders to celebrate their ongoing lives and for families to participate in memoriam of loved ones lost.

Over 50 celebrities will appear at the event, including visits from: Rico Rodriguez from Modern Family, Ian Chen of Fresh Off the Boat, Carly Schroeder of Gracie, Jake Brennan from Richi Rich, Tahj Mowry of Baby Daddy and many more.

The event will be held at Shoreline Aquatic Park, located at 200 Aquarium Way, from 10:00AM to 1:00PM.
