The newly incorporated Westside Project Area Council is now seeking member businesses to join the public body, which aims to act as a conduit between citizens on the Westside and the City of Long Beach. Originally funded through the Long Beach Redevelopment Agency, WPAC has spent the last year since RDA dissolution reincorporating itself as a non-profit.

After months of drafts and votes by Steering Committee members, the group has officially adopted new bylaws and a mission statement and is now requesting memberships for those who wish to be involved. Membership is based on annual tax-deductible dues of $200 which will fund its advocacy and give members the right to vote on any issue coming before the PAC as well as access to the monthly newsletter and all neighborhood updates.

“The PAC is asking the neighborhood businesses it advocates for to join as members, which will mean paying annual dues,” explains WPAC’s Coordinator, Lee Adams. “When they were under the RDA, there was a limit to what the voting body could be, but now that they have incorporated independently, they can have as many members as they want on their roster.”

According to group updates outlined in the last few months of newsletters, new bylaws were necessary to reflect the WPAC’s new status. Inspired by the success of longtime neighborhood group West Long Beach Association, the WPAC’s bylaws have incorporated some of the WLBA’s guiding principles, including how by-laws speak to membership, dues, levels of participation, etc.

“What was once sufficient no longer spoke to the focus and direction of this Neo-PAC, and it became clear that starting from scratch would be best,” the newsletter said.

All interested may also bring their initial membership check to the monthly meeting held on the second Wednesday of each month at 5PM at the Long Beach Police Station, West Division, 1835 Santa Fe Ave.
