According to an annual report of the region’s best doctors, 88 of the top physicians in greater Los Angeles practice in Long Beach, the majority of them affiliated with Long Beach Memorial Medical Center. 

With scores based on peer recognition and personal acheivement, Super Doctors is a published listing of the top 5% of doctors active in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties. It includes physicians from more than 40 specialties from pediatrics and obstetrics to urology and reconstructive plastic surgery.

Since the national Super Doctors report expanded to include Southern California in 2008, 30 Long Beach Memorial and Miller Children’s and Community Hospital doctors have appeared on the list every year. In 2014, five new Long Beach Memorial Medical Center affiliated physicians made the list.

“We consistently strive to provide the highest quality and compassionate care for our patients and look to recruit physicians that represent this vision at Miller Children’s,” said Divya Joshi, M.D., MMM, chief medical officer at Miller Children’s Hospital. “Each year, more of our physicians are recognized on this list as they continue to have their work honored by their colleagues and maintain the superb standards of excellence we set forth.”

Key Professional Media organizes and prints the Super Doctors list each year and uses a selective provess to determine who will be included. A pool of doctors is first obtained through a nomination period where doctors are asked to consider the question: “If you needed medical care in one of the following specialties, which doctor would you choose?”

The pool is added to by reseachers and names are then fielded by a panel of top-ranked candidates from each specialty area based on a number of evaluation measures including: years of experience, hospital appointments, fellowships, professional activities, leadership positions, academic achievements, board certifications, publications, lectures and presentations, honors and awards and other outstanding achievements. The final list is printed as a special supplement in Los Angeles Magazine.
