Long Beach city health officials have suspended the permit of a fruit vendor until the end of the month following a health code violation discovered last week, according to health officials.

Perez Fruit Carts will not be allowed to sell produce until June 30, said Environmental Health Bureau Manager Nelson Kerr, due to unauthorized food processing on a cart.

“On a cart, you’re very limited in what you can do in terms of food processing,” Kerr said. “In this case they were cutting, chopping and packaging fruit…which can be potentially hazardous,” Kerr said.

The permit was suspended Tuesday, June 16, and the cart where the violation happened was impounded, he said.

According to Kerr, the incident was a repeated violation by the company.
