A nine-year employee of the Long Beach Police Department, Noe Yanez, pleaded guilty last Friday to four counts of misconduct while an additional forty-five counts were dismissed.
Following his plea, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Ronald S. Coen immediately sentenced Yanez to 11 years and eight months in state prison and ordered him to register as a sex offender for life, said Deputy District Attorney Natalie Adoman.
Yanez became the center of controversy when he was arrested last April with 24 felony and 15 misdemeanor charges after knowledge of his contact with a minor while on assignment was discovered. He initially posted bail on April 20 but additional charges arose, resulting in him being rearrested on May 7 after additional victims stepped forward. On June 20, he pleaded not guilty to over 40 sex crimes.
This past Friday, before a hearing to determine his ability to stand trial, Yanez reversed his previous plea and pleaded guilty to not only raping an 18-year-old woman, but also one count each of meeting a minor for lewd purposes, using a minor for sex acts, and possession of child pornography, as well two counts of false imprisonment by fraud or deceit.
