One person was sent to the hospital with burns when two separate fires charred a one-story hose and clogged a beachfront high-rise with smoke, authorities said.

The first blaze sparked in a small bungalow on Washington Place near Ninth Street around 9 p.m. Wednesday, Long Beach Fire Department spokesman Brian Fisk said.

Multiple people called about the blaze, which was burning throughout the entire house when crews arrived, Fisk said.

One person in the house managed to escape but suffered some minor burns from the blaze, according to authorities.

Crews were able to quickly douse the blaze, but the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Hours later, around 5:30 Thursday morning, fire crews rushed to a high-rise apartment building on Ocean Boulevard near Bixby Park, according to Fisk.

An alarm in the building’s garbage chute had been triggered.

“Something was sent down that set the trash on fire,” Fisk said.

The fire was relatively minor. Crews had to clear smoke from multiple floors of the building, but residents didn’t have to evacuate any apartments, Fisk said.
