Back on May 8th, the City Council voted to establish a Sustainability Commission that would focus on city-wide environmental issues. It is now 2 1/2 months later and there is no discussion of the commission that I can find or a time line for its launch.

Let’s hope the City Council and staff are working to get this Commission off the ground as soon as possible….we need it, like yesterday.

There are numerous environmental challenges that we need to face right away in Long Beach. They include the Breakwater, beach water quality, solar energy, green building programs and resident education. Let’s hope that the Mayor is able to make the 11 appointments as soon as possible.

9 of the members will come from the 9 districts and 2 will be at large. They will all serve 4 year terms.

What: The Long Beach City Council is voting to fund a reconnaissance study of the Long Beach Breakwater to determine if reconfiguration of the structure is in the good interest of water quality and the residents of Long Beach.
