As early as next Monday, Cal State Long Beach President Dr. F. King Alexander might be preparing to leave the state for a new position–President-Chancellor of the Louisiana State University (LSU) system.

Though it is still unknown if Alexander will formally accept the offer, Baton Rouge’s NBC affiliate is reporting that LSU’s board solely recommended the Kentucky native for the position today:

The Presidential Search Committee met Monday morning where the list was narrowed down to one candidate. The board did not vote Monday, they just recommended Alexander for the position.

LSU’s board is expected to finalize their vote come next Monday, March 27, in the hopes of replacing former and fired LSU President John Lombardi. Lombardi was fired in a Board vote 12-4 last August due to managerial deficiencies.

The new President-Chancellor is expected to begin this June or July, with William Jenkins serving as interim president.

Alexander will fly to Louisiana this week to speak with community members from the system’s five campuses, 11 institutions and 10 hospitals, who will have the chance to talk to Alexander and learn more about him.

The NBC affiliate also posted the following quote from Alexander:

This is an exciting period at a difficult time for higher education. LSU is positioned better than many public universities in the United States to lead the land grant mission into the next 50 years. LSU has developed a great reputation due to the work of its faculty and staff and the quality of its students, and I would be honored to be part of that cohesive team as it moves into the future.

Alexander became president of CSULB in 2006, following the successful tenure of Robert Maxson.

The Post is currently awaiting official word back from CSULB as well as Alexander. More information as it comes available.
