City officials closed the El Dorado Park Nature Center following a brush fire near the park early this morning, authorities said.
The Long Beach Fire Department responded to the blaze at around 2:17 a.m. near Spring Street and the San Gabriel River, according to LBFD spokesman Brian Fisk. There, fire crews found multiple fires burning in dry brush in a 300-square-foot area, Fisk said.
It took about two and a half hours to extinguish the fire, said Fisk.
There were no injuries, according to the LBFD.
The fire’s proximity to the nature center convinced city officials to temporarily close the facility, said City Councilmember Daryl Supernaw.
The fire did not damage the nature center, but city officials opted to close it out of caution, said Supernaw.
