Three people were injured by gunfire in Long Beach Saturday night during two separate incidents that occurred less than two hours apart, according to Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) officials.

The first of two Fourth of July shootings began when officers responded to a shooting call near West 31st Street and Caspian Avenue at 9:57PM.

Authorities said family members transported the gunshot victim—an adult male—to a local hospital with what appeared to be a non-life threatening injury.

At 11:27PM, officers responded to a shooting call near 10th Street and Lewis Avenue where a man and woman sustained gunshot injuries, LBPD spokeswoman Marlene Arrona said.

Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) officials transported both victims to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Both investigations remain ongoing.

Just before both shootings officers on a routine patrol came across a possible chemical explosive device on the street, near 14th Street and Coronado Avenue at 9:46PM, Arrona said.

Nearby residents were evacuated during the investigation as a precaution but the device was rendered safe by responding Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department bomb squad personnel.
