A man is dead following a shooting Friday in South Wrigley that police are investigating as gang-related.

Long Beach police arrived on the scene at about 4:20PM in the 2100 block of Earl Avenue after receiving a shooting call, the Long Beach Police Department said in a statement.

The officers found a victim, identified as 25-year-old Alexander Johnson III of Long Beach, who had been struck in the upper body by gunfire. He was transported to a local hospital in serious condition, and was pronounced dead shortly thereafter, police said.

A preliminary investigation found the victim was standing out in front of the investigation location when a vehicle drove up. The driver of the vehicle and the victim began arguing, then the driver pulled out a handgun and fired at the victim.

Police are describing the suspect as a black man driving a dark colored vehicle.
