Long Beach police are still looking for the driver of a dark-colored sedan who hit a bicyclist Sunday morning in Cambodia Town and left him in critical condition.
Officers were called to the area of Anaheim Street and St. Louis Avenue at about 11:50 a.m. about the hit-and-run crash, spokeswoman Allison Gallagher said. When they got there, they found a man with an injury to his upper body and bystanders trying to provide medical aid.
The bicyclist was taken to a local hospital by paramedics where he is in critical condition, Gallagher said.
“Through their investigation, officers have determined the bicyclist was riding southbound on St. Louis Avenue in the southbound lane of traffic when he was struck from behind by a dark-colored sedan,” she said.
The driver did not stop to help or provide information after the crash and was last seen traveling southbound on St. Louis Avenue.
Some social media posts have reported that the victim died, but police and the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office have not been able to confirm that.
